"Mrmph. Now I know ya been told all this before."

"Ain't nothin' new."

"Ya know I can't be comin' back, I'm on vacation. That serious? Mrmph... Well, I reckon--" A hand over his hand lowered his phone. He didn't need to look over and certainly didn't need to be told yet again that they were here to 'calmly enjoy the solitude'. "I'll call ya in a few." He grumbled a while longer under his breath about how he had important things to do, that he didn't have time to be sitting in a cave with some old actor, that he was cold, and wasn't even sure why he'd been invited.

"You overwork yourself." A soft response to the stream of frustration. Clay paused, something more than startled by the quieter man's sudden forwardness. "I apologize. I have been concerned for quite some time."

"What? Nah. Been workin' this pace my whole life. Not overworkin' when it's my usual pace."

"I'm aware of how you work and the tension it causes you. I can see it in your face and--"

"An' the cave?"

"Is there something wrong with it?"

"'Sides how chilly it is?" Sarcasm. Annoyed sarcasm.

"..."

"The reception's pretty darn bad," he muttered, almost chuckling.

"I assumed that would be a positive."

He squinted at Brycen wondering if they were having the same conversation. Sarcasm aside, he doubted he came off as anything similar to the gym leader so often caught in meditation. Time was money and he wasn't sure about the former actor, but he knew he sure didn't have the cash to kick around to be meditating in the back of some cave. There was work to be done. "This was fun 'n all those pleasantries, but I have quite a bit of work to be gettin' back to." The stout man stood up, rolling his shoulders before he tipped his hat to his fellow gym leader. "Thanks for yer concern, Brycen."

"You should stay."

The Ice-type leader did not usually have enough sway over him that he'd listen to the request, but curiosity got the better of him. He sat closer than he had been in an attempt to get a better look at Brycen's face beneath the mask. It was difficult enough to read reactions in the lighting of the cave. "Any reason yer so darn concerned?"

"As I've mentioned, I've noticed your tension."

"We're all tense. Heck, I could betcha Elesa is even more stressed than me, but yer not takin' her up to some frozen cave."

"..."

"Haven't really seen ya buddy-buddy with anyone."

"You interest me. Something about... Regardless, I can't imagine this line of questioning could make you any more relaxed."

"Why's that? Might find out somethin' I don't like? What's 'interest' mean to ya anyhow?" After a long pause, staring at an unreadable expression, somthing clicked with Clay that he was amazed hadn't sooner. "That sort..." An affirmative nod. "Ain't that something."

"I did not plan on acting on it."

"Shame."

As they stared each other down in the silence, Clay's phone rang again.
